A bridge strike is an incident where a vehicle or its load or equipment collides with a bridge. Statistics published by Network Rail tell us that on average, 5 bridge strikes involving large goods or passenger vehicles occur each day in the UK. Bridge strikes are not only dangerous, but they can also be very costly for both operators and drivers alike. This course provides you with the knowledge to avoid a bridge strike or what to do if one occurs.

Who is This Course For?
This course is suitable for HGV and PSV drivers, as well as operators of HGV and passenger transport fleets to improve their awareness on the road.
If an operator's vehicle is involved in a bridge strike, they will usually have to attend a hearing or public inquiry before the Traffic Commissioner and they will face regulatory action against their Operator’s Licence. The operator may also be liable for any costs incurred as a result of the bridge strike.
The driver responsible, may also be called to a hearing, which could result in their vocational entitlement being revoked and a 6-month disqualification being issued. In some cases, especially where it results in the loss of life or serious injury, the driver may also be criminally prosecuted and could be fined or even worse, sent to prison.
What Will I Learn?
The course covers the following topics:
On completion of the course, you will understand the responsibilities of avoiding bridge strikes. Additionally, you will know the checks to make before commencing a journey, what to do when enroute, traffic signs, and action if a bridge strike occurs.
This is also a CPC course so it will go towards your driver CPC hour requirements.
