Who is This Course For?
Safe Driving is intended for professional HGV drivers who regularly operate in towns and cities or in areas with significant numbers of vulnerable road users. FORS Silver accreditation requires all company drivers to complete Safe Driving training, making this programme ideal for:
This one-day course combines a classroom theory session with a practical cycling experience, delivered over seven hours.
Theory Module
Delivered either at one of our training sites or at your own premises.
The theory session covers:
The practical session takes place on the road using a bicycle, allowing drivers to gain first-hand insight into the challenges faced by cyclists. You may bring your own equipment if approved by the instructor, or borrow ours.

- Defensive driving principles and the correct use and upkeep of vehicle safety systems
The practical session takes place on the road using a bicycle, allowing drivers to gain first-hand insight into the challenges faced by cyclists. You may bring your own equipment if approved by the instructor, or borrow ours.
This module covers:
- Driver attitude, perception, and understanding road positioning from a cyclist’s viewpoint
- Active travel awareness, along with driver wellbeing and fitness
- Recognising hazards and appreciating the risks experienced by vulnerable road users
Safe Driving Training Course Outcomes:
- A seven-hour course eligible for periodic Driver CPC hours
- Training aligned with FORS Silver, WRRR and CLOCS requirements
- A deeper understanding of the risks faced by vulnerable road users and how to navigate urban roads responsibly
- Improved defensive driving practice, supported by real-world scenario learning
- Heightened awareness of how attitude, fitness and perception influence road safety
- Stronger hazard identification and response skills in challenging urban settings
