Description

Who is This Course For?
Safe Driving is intended for professional HGV drivers who regularly operate in towns and cities or in areas with significant numbers of vulnerable road users. FORS Silver accreditation requires all company drivers to complete Safe Driving training, making this programme ideal for:
  • HGV drivers working in dense or complex traffic environments
  • Fleet operators progressing towards or maintaining FORS Silver status
  • Organisations committed to complying with WRRR and CLOCS expectations
What Will I Learn?
This one-day course combines a classroom theory session with a practical cycling experience, delivered over seven hours.

Theory Module
Delivered either at one of our training sites or at your own premises.
The theory session covers:
  • How urban road layouts are evolving
  • Identifying vulnerable road users and sharing space safely
  • Defensive driving principles and the correct use and upkeep of vehicle safety systems
Practical Module
The practical session takes place on the road using a bicycle, allowing drivers to gain first-hand insight into the challenges faced by cyclists. You may bring your own equipment if approved by the instructor, or borrow ours.
This module covers:
  • Driver attitude, perception, and understanding road positioning from a cyclist’s viewpoint
  • Active travel awareness, along with driver wellbeing and fitness
  • Recognising hazards and appreciating the risks experienced by vulnerable road users
What Will I Achieve?
Safe Driving Training Course Outcomes:
  • A seven-hour course eligible for periodic Driver CPC hours
  • Training aligned with FORS Silver, WRRR and CLOCS requirements
