Who is This Course For?
For HGV operators who need to assess:

• New drivers as part of recruitment
• Drivers involved in collisions, incidents or complaints
• Newly qualified or inexperienced HGV drivers
• Experienced drivers who are out of practice or need an update on current standards
• Foreign drivers or those new to UK roads

Assessments can also be used for routine annual checks and insurance or accreditation purposes.
 
What Will I Learn?
An HGV assessment typically covers: 

• Training declaration
• Visual license check and eyesight confirmation
• Highway Code test
• Highway Code including speed limits
• Pre-use checks
• Coupling and un-coupling (HGV only)
• Correct preparation and use of the vehicle
• Practical on-road assessments – driving and parking
• Theory training includes driver attitude, knowledge and understanding
• Vulnerable road users – pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, e-scooters, horse riders
• Driver distractions
• Fuel efficient driving techniques

You’ll receive structured feedback with clear improvement recommendations.
 
What Will I Achieve?
Following the assessment, you will:

• Increased knowledge and understanding of the Highway Code, risks and hazards when driving, drivers’ driving techniques best practice, and awareness of the environment and fuel-efficient driving techniques
• A Driver Assessment certificate upon completion

• A 1- 4 hour, in-vehicle HGV assessment on a varied route
