Who is This Course For?
 
This course offers essential training for staff who:
  • handle low-risk food
  • have no previous food handling experience
  • work front of house, such as cashiers or reception staff
  • work back of house, such as kitchen cleaners or dishwashers
Food handlers whose duties involve preparing or handling high-risk foods should complete a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene course instead.

What Will I Learn?
This course delivers clear, practical guidance on safe food handling to ensure staff do not create risks for themselves, colleagues, or customers through poor food safety practices.

The Level 1 Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering course is made up of 4 core units, followed by a final assessment:
  • Unit 1 – Food Safety: An Introduction
  • Unit 2 – Personal Hygiene
  • Unit 3 – Cleaning
  • Unit 4 – Contamination
On completion, learners will:
  • have a basic understanding of food safety and hygiene
  • understand the key food hygiene laws and regulations that businesses must follow
  • recognise the symptoms and consequences of poor food hygiene practices
  • understand the importance of effective cleaning and waste management for food safety
  • know how to spot common food safety hazards and reduce the risks they pose
